Moderate rake angles between 10 and 30 degrees are recommended for machining medium-density fiberboard. The recommendations are based on previous experimental data and are corroborated by data from an industrial study. Equations for various tool angles for milling are also presented with an explanation so that tools can be designed to keep rake angles within the desired limits during woodworking operations. Results from an industrial test substantiate the tool geometry recommendations. The application of desirable tool geometry is also discussed. Although exceptions may occur, these recommendations provide a basis for tool or machine design.
