Thermal softening temperatures for nine adhesives were determined and related to the durability of these adhesives in wood laminates. The wood-glue bond exposure tests involved up to 6 years of outdoor test-fence weathering, up to 1,600 cycles of a multiple- exposure, accelerated-aging test, and 3 days’ soaking in water. The softening temperature test for adhesives was found to be a useful laboratory procedure for preliminary ranking of adhesive durability.
