Specimens 1 by 1/4 by 3 inches were vacuum dried in glass chambers to test the feasibility of the method for small timbers. Moisture loss rate was exponential. Twenty specimens of Pinus sylvestris L. showed three separate removal processes each with distinct values. The author feels these represent a) removal of surface moisture, b) removal of moisture between cell walls and c) removal of moisture from the cell material.
