The effects of three wood preservatives on dampwood termites (Zootermopsis augusticollis Hagen) and their gut protozoa were studied. Chromated copper arsenate and ammoniacal copper zinc arsenate were associated with absence of termite feeding and higher termite and protozoa mortality; low levels of polyborate affected termites more slowly. Dampwood termites were generally more sensitive to preservatives than were subterranean termites examined in previous studies, which suggests that dampwood termite damage can easily be avoided through the use of preservative-treated wood.
