A homologous series of aliphatic amines was tested in wood and in agar against Poria monticola and Polyporus versicolor. The results were analyzed in the context of Finholt’s hypothesis that amines in the 8- to 18-carbon range in wood act outside the fungus body in inactivating the celluloses, thus preventing decay. This hypothesis was not supported by the greater part of the evidence provided by the study.
