Eighteen center cants from oak, cherry, and Maple logs were sawn into 4/4 lumber. The cants and resulting lumber were measured at three points. The difference-between the sum of the lumber measurements and the cant measurements was assumed to be sawkerf. The results of a t-test showed that the sawkerf was significantly greater than the average sawtooth width and the average sawkerf was 7.6 percent greater than the average sawtooth width.
