Experimental evidence demonstrates that accurate values of edgewise shear modulus (G) can be obtained by measuring the average deflection at the extremities of the diagonals of plywood and particleboard plates. Utilizing a testing machine equipped with an x-y recorder, the plate shear modulus can be determined without the special dial (spider) and without an extra person to read deflections. Values of G for plywood and particleboard plates can be affected as much as 20 percent by L/h ratios between 20 and 52. In most plywood plates, G values increase linearly with increasing L/h ratios. In particleboard plates, G values apparently decrease linearly with increasing L/h ratios.
