An attempt has been trade to show the potential value of some simplified data-handling techniques in the analysis of physical test data. Application of these techniques has been illustrated for flexural strength testing in the case of particleboard and hardboard, and the measurement of internal bond strength in particleboard. The four techniques that have been described are: 1) Algebraic transformation of standard forms to simplified forms, to eliminate redundant operations in measurement and calculation. 2) Standardization of test variables wherever possible to eliminate redundant operations in measurement and calculation. 3) The use of non-linear representation. 4) The use of non-linear instrument scales to eliminate repetitive operations in calculation. All these techniques must be used within the limitations of a suitable experimental design, and with due consideration given to the hazards involved.
