Simplified Test of Internal Bond in Particleboard

The standard ASTM test of internal bond was compared to a modified ASTM test where wood blocks were substituted for metal, and with a push-out test. Specimens for the latter were prepared by cutting halfway through them with 1-3/4- and 3-inch diameter hole saws. Force was applied at the bottom of each cut until failure. Test results indicated that highest averages were obtained with the standard ASTM, followed by the modified ASTM and push-out tests. Regression analysis indicated a correlation of 0.838 between the push-out test and the standard ASTM test.
