FPL technicians have cut 1/2-inch slicewood on a conventional veneer slicer with yields up to 46 percent more than the predicted recovery by sawing. The techniques used are presented in this paper as well as the physical and mechanical properties of the product. More research is needed on drying and machinery design, but the process appears ready for an economic feasibility study by industry to compare costs of the slicewood process with conventional sawing in terms of flitch breakdown, drying, grading recovery, and, value of the end product.
