Costs of manufacture are dependent upon woodwaste, amortization, drying, resin, labor, and overhead. The extrusion process is less expensive than the platen process in some respects. Extrusion plants give a more uniform product, but the product is harder to sell. Platen board is more readily machined. The joints of particleboard cores to lumber will almost always show up in face veneer panels. Multiplaten board will show these joints more than extruded board.
