Three green veneer sorting measures (water content, green weight, and both combined) were evaluated as means to control dry veneer moisture content variables of percent MC, water content, and percent water remaining. The results show that a measure of 1) water content or 2) green weight, (ranked by significance) is feasible for improving the control of drying time, dry veneer percent MC, and overdrying. Optimum control of drying variation, overdrying, and a decrease in drying time (10 to 15 percent) is possible with four drying sorts dried to the 3 to 12 percent MC limits required by a high-resin solid adhesive.
