Southern Timber Supply Trends and Outlook

Forest products industries in the South have expanded greatly in the past decade. At the same time, the volume of pine growing stock has risen sharply. Although total hardwood volume rose slightly, quality continued to decline owing to widespread clearing and flooding of bottom-land forests, as well as heavy cutting of large trees.
