Furniture manufacturers have several problems to contend with. Increasing competition from metal furniture and the growing scarcity of high grades of furniture species are among these problems. In order to maintain cost levels and to improve some furniture designs, the author suggests the use of metal. Specific uses for metal might include support for cantilevered tables, reinforcements for upholstered pieces, and side drawer guides. Objections to the use of metal in visible furniture parts are lessening as metal is finding more uses in the house. Supplemental use of metal will tend to cut production costs, making it possible to reduce prices, and by so doing, increase volume of sales in furniture.
