Surface textures of sawn, planed, molded, and sanded surfaces of wood were compared. Techniques for determining these textures are presented and described. Surface-texture measurements can be of great importance in quality control of wood products. The variables in machining processes are such that they can be measured and controlled. Waste can be reduced and performance can be improved by such controls.
