In Colombia, transmission poles and fenceposts of pine, cypress, and eucalypt treated with chromated copper arsenate (CCA) and established in replicated field trials have shown good results after 10 years of field exposure. There was complete failure of all untreated posts and poles. There is a need to use wood from sustainably managed sources such as plantations rather than from the natural forest in Colombia for both economic and biodiversity reasons. The results of this study indicate that CCA-treated plantation wood will be durable under Colombian conditions.
