California black oak was found to be high in tensile strength and stiffness perpendicular to the grain. The relationship between moisture content and tensile-strength properties perpendicular to the grain is essentially linear in the range from 6 percent moisture content to the fiber saturation point, but quadratic equations give a somewhat better fit.
