This process depends on the chemical reaction between the vehicle of the coating and sulfur dichloride. Compared with air drying, the Chem-Dry method requires less time and less space, and results are superior in several ways. Compared with baking, it is faster for many applications, takes less space, costs less, and requires no heat. Sulfur dichloride vapor reacts with drying oils, oleoresinous varnishes, resins made from drying oils, rubber, urea-formaldehyde, melamine-formaldehyde, and similar materials. The test applications and the finish properties are described, together with the advantages and disadvantages of the method.
