Drying rates can be accelerated significantly by vibrating a piece of wood at its fundamental resonance. Using small specimens under laboratory conditions, drying times were reduced 15 percent. Resonating impulses were developed longitudinally. The resonant frequencies were between 5,000 and 5,800 cps. The test specimens were 1- by 1-inch by 20-inches cut from green ponderosa pine at a moisture content of 150 percent. Vibration was created by means of a free hammer striking a piece on the end at the rate of 60 cps.
