Suggests use of cold setting high strength adhesives gluing hardboard to hardboard and hardboard to wood. Characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of polyvinyl acetate emulsions and resorcinol-formaldehyde resins are discussed. All that is required with such emulsions is to open the container, apply the emulsion to the material to be bonded, then hold the pieces in contact for a few minutes to several hours, depending upon the porosity of the material being bonded. Using the recommended spreads of polyvinyl acetate emulsions of from 60 to 90 pounds per M sq. ft. of double glue line, the cost will range from $18 to $30. Resorcinol-formaldehyde resins are among the few adhesives which will cure at room temperature and give a completely waterproof bond. Recommendations for the use of resorcinol-formaldehyde resins in the gluing of hardboards are given.
