The Manufacture of Molded Articles from Resin Bonded Granulated Wood

Molding articles from granulated wood with a resin binder provides a method of more complete wood utilization. Such products are 60-90 percent wood. Particle forms and resins can be chosen to meet the individual product needs. Attention must be given to bulk factor, blending, molds, pre-drying, pressure, cure-time, coloring, and quality control. Breaking strength increases with increasing pressure and resin content. Softwoods generally produce a stronger product than hardwoods. Water resistance and density are similarly related to pressure and resin content. Hardwoods produce a more water-resistant product than softwoods.
