The Preparation of Wood Surfaces Prior to Finishing

Improvements in finishing materials and the effect of their acceptance on sanding operations in relation to cabinet room and finishing room operations are noted. The uses of coated abrasive products in the preparation of “white-wood” surfaces for the, application of finishing materials are pointed out. Aluminium-oxide abrasive papers are, employed on multiple-drum sanders when hard woods are being sanded, when frames including hard glue and possibly nails are to be surfaced, or when a large amount of tape is to be removed. Relocation and employment of sanding machinery are touched upon for the influence they exert on finishing and for the effect they have upon savings in space, duplication of operations, rehandling, and hand-sanding costs.
