One attempt to improve utilization of sawdust residues is through increasing the size of the particles so that they are large enough for use in the production of paper pulp. Research indicates that some of the methods now used, such as sawing to produce chips from the kerf, are not economically feasible. Methods and machinery are still being studied in attempts to find an economical way to produce more usable kerf residues.
