This report presents results of short-term creep tests designed to provide information on the elastic and viscous properties of wood in tension parallel to the grain and contributes to a better understanding of the time-dependent strain behavior of wood while under stress. Results from eight species ranging in specific gravity from 0.40 to 1.04 are given. Short-term creep tests indicate that the creep-stress level relation may be described by a linear regression up to the threshold of set and an exponential regression thereafter. Permanent set begins at about the same initial strain, but the stress level at which set first occurs varies considerably between species.
