Using a single saw tooth mounted in laboratory cutting apparatus, the springback of wood was determined for white spruce (Picea glauca) and hard maple (Acer saccharum) in the air dry and green conditions. The minimum clearance needed (set) for springback was 0.015 inch for tooth bites up to 0.050 inch, and for a bite of 0.010 inch, clearance could be 0.008 inch. For band saw type cutting the same clearance was needed for either spring-set or swage-set teeth while for circular saw cutting spring-set teeth required less set. Counter or climb sawing with circular saw required the same set. No relation was found between springback and moisture content of the wood.
