This paper discusses the distribution and valuation of destructively tested a graded (based on Fb and E values) dimension lumber yield of saw timber from 25-, 30-, 35-, 40-, and 50-year-old loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) plantation stands. The relative quality differences of saw timber derived from these stands were subsequently quantified based on such valuation. Loblolly pine plantation saw timber quality, as reflected by the unit value ($/thousand board feet [MBF]) of tested and graded dimension lumber derived therefrom and the percentage of such lumber graded No. 1 and Better, was found to increase linearly with stand age. Based on summer 2000 prices, the unit value of dimension lumber yield increased by as much as $8.07/MBF per year of stand age. This translates into annual increases of as much as $549.59 in total value yield per acre of loblolly pine plantation stands like those considered in this study.
