Longitudinal vibration characteristics of small, clear Douglas-fir beams at several moisture levels were compared with static strength and elastic properties of the same material. Both static modulus of rupture and compressive strength parallel to the grain correlated significantly with specific gravity and with modulus of elasticity, determined either statically or dynamically. The coefficients of correlation ranged from about 0.5 to over 0.9, depending on the properties correlated and the moisture content, but most correlation coefficients were over 0.8. No significant correlation was found between toughness or shear strength and the other measured quantities. Coefficients of correlation between internal friction and strength properties were generally 0.7 or lower.
