Wood dowels coated with powdered catalyst were driven into holes coated with neat urea resin, to obtain long potlife, quick set, and additional advantage of a water resistant bond. The catalyst is effective in amounts from 0.2 to 10 percent of the resin and a 15 minute closed assembly time is permissible. One lb. of catalyst coats 10,000 dowels, each 5/8 by 3-1/2 inches; coated dowels may be stored for months at humidities up to 95 percent. Catalysed glue bonds tested dry were as good or better in shear and wood failure than conventional glue bonds of casein, animal, and polyvinyl glue, and were much superior if tested after 48 hours soaking in water.
