An extensive two-stage study by Olin Matheson and USFS Southern Forest Experiment Station comparing conventional stick-scaling with weight-scaling led to the adoption of the latter. Olin installed a 60-foot, 50-ton scale at Huttig, Arkansas, where subsequent checks confirmed the advantages improved accuracy and safety, and savings in time and labor. A weiht-scale table which was developed is published.
