Mathematical analyses were developed in this paper and using these methods proportional limit strength predictions can be made with reasonable accuracy for aluminum-wood core beams. They are more accurate for beams with cores of medium-density woods. Predicted moments will tend to be low for beams with dense cores and high for those with cores of low density. Dense woods give greater support to the thin facings. Study was made of shear stresses developed in this type of beam with indications that initial core failures do not occur in shear.
