Wood Specific Gravity of Eleven Species of Pines

This article summarizes results presented in eight publications by the author and his associates on wood specific gravity of 11 pine species. The purpose is to facilitate comparisons among species. The basis on which comparisons can be made are defined, and the value of considering other factors is illustrated. Results are presented in a single table showing for each species the number of trees sampled, average age, d.b.h., specific gravity, ranges and standard deviation of specific gravity, and the percentage of chemical extractives found in each species.
